Funding entity Collaborative Research for Energy SYstem Modelling (CRESYM)
Participated by Air Liquide, RTE
This collaboration comprises two separate lines of work:
Ammonia Production Assessment (APA): the aim of the study is to evaluate the cost of producing low-carbon ammonia and importing it into the EU from different countries or regions and to estimate the associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity. This analysis is deterministic and carried out under perfect foresight and it include an extensive analysis of sensitivities to critical variables. All the data for costs and energy mixes in different regions are based on the most recent available data.
Quasi-Optimal Alternatives (QOA): the objective of this project is to reach a common understanding of optimisation problems deriving from Air Liquide’s use cases in gas production systems design and operation, propose promising applications for QOAs modelling approaches, and identify potential further developments.
Layman's summary: The collaboration includes: (1) assessing the costs and emissions of producing and importing low-carbon ammonia to the EU from different regions; and (2) applying quasi-optimal approaches to analyze and improve the optimization of gas production systems.
